Taiwanese shipping company Wan Hai Lines has ordered four methanol dual-fuel containerships from HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, a subsidiary of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE). The vessels, each with a capacity of 8,700 TEUs, are part of Wan Hai’s strategy to expand its fleet and reduce emissions. The ships are set to be delivered by May 2027, with a total cost of $128 million.
This follows Wan Hai’s earlier letter of intent (LOI) in August 2024, for twelve methanol dual-fuel vessels, marking the company’s first order for dual-fuel ships. The shift to methanol aligns with the industry’s push for greener alternatives, joining other shipping giants like Maersk and Evergreen Marine in adopting more sustainable fuel options.
Wan Hai’s continued fleet modernization aims to meet growing demand for efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly shipping services.
